Living with less slowly became a way of life.

Stories in Light – Brazil.
Episode 9: Marcos.

“Easy Go,” I read
on the small sailboat
where Marcos has lived for the past seven years.

It’s more than a name.
It’s how he lives.

After his divorce, he left Brazil behind, he tells me.
Over time, contact with his children faded.

Disappointed in the world,
and in the people around him,
he left for Japan — the land of his ancestors.

For years, he traveled the world.
Living with less slowly became a way of life.

And yet —
after all those years,
he came back to Brazil.

But settling on land was no longer for him.
So he chose a life on the water.

No debt.
No toilet.
No fridge.
No steady job.

From his boat, he looks out at the city.
Buildings rising, one after another.
Possessions. Luxury. Everywhere.

“Today I have nothing,” he says. “But I am happier.”

Sometimes he thinks about the future.
About getting older.

But he doesn’t worry.

“Every problem has a solution. I’ll find it when I need to.”

Marcos.

While everything around him
is about having more and more,

he let go.

All but one thing.

His will
to be free.
