A man
who once had much —
and in the end lost even more.

Stories in Light – Brazil.
Episode 6: Lourival.

When I walk through the streets of Lençóis,
he is always there.

On the pavement in front of his small house.

Rolling a cigarette,
coughing heavily.

For days I keep walking past him, unsure,
until one day I sit down beside him.

Lourival is 68. His face tells a different story.

He tells me about his life as a miner.
A time when money was never a problem.

“I spent it as quickly as it came in,” he says, laughing.

On whisky.
On taxis.
On adventures.

But a life where anything was possible
didn’t last forever.

He lost his wife.
His money.
His home.

In many other Brazilian cities,
a man like Lourival would slowly fade into loneliness.

Fear of violence runs deep.
Doors stay closed.
Life happens behind walls.
Streets grow empty.

But in Lençóis, doors are still open.

There is always room for a conversation here.
People see him.

Lourival.

A man
who once had much —
and in the end lost even more.

But here, on the pavement in front of his home,
among his neighbors,
he still matters.
